Premier of Revolutionary Medicine: A Story of the First
Garifuna Hospital (documentary: 40 minutes)
With
guest speaker Dr. Luther Harry Castillo, graduated from the Latin
American School of Medicine in Cuba and Co-founder of the First
Garifuna People's Hospital of Honduras Come hear about a community struggle to build a
freeand holistic health care system on Honduras?
Caribbean coast. The Garifuna
Hospital--the
first to be established in Garifuna communities since the
Garifuna arrived in Honduras 215 years ago--stands as an
alternative to the increasingly privatized national health
system. Built, administered, and defended by the communities
it serves, the project has become
a symbol
of Garifuna self-determination.
Could a remote hospital that runs on solar panels, in a
community without paved roads or electricity, provide a new
global model for health care? All
donations will go directly toward supporting the Hospital's efforts.
