Description:

Washington, DC author Nick Mann  will discuss and sign the new book, Forgetful.

A pervasive dean from Howard University in the District of Columbia talks Dr. Benjamin Parks into leading a seminar on cross-cultural relationships. Bright students enroll and question whether bridges really can be built across racial, gender, attraction orientation, political, and religious divides.

The universal dilemmas explored in the seminar are but one of the multilayered complexities that in some ways challenge and in other ways trap Ben Parks. His professional achievements can?t substitute for the loving, peaceful home life that stays just out of reach.

Compounding the situation, Ben is afraid he is losing his memory and may be suffering from early dementia. He experiences embarrassing signs at unexpected times in both his professional life as an organizational consultant and part-time college professor and in his hot and cold relationship with his wife Addie.

The author, Nick Mann, has worked as an organization development practitioner for nearly 40 years. His prior career included serving as an infantry officer in the US Army in the late 1960s, and managing in a manpower and social services program in the early 1970s. Dr. Mann is on the adjunct faculty of the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also regularly consults with the Service Employees International Union as well as with other public, private, and non-profit organizations.

Here are some things readers are saying about ?Forgetful.?

Being a Washingtonian, I thoroughly enjoyed the local references. There were several stories about family and relationships, crafted together with Dr Parks class on cultural diversity. Very enjoyable writing style by this new, up and coming author.

Dr. Ben Parks, the central figure in the book is now an intriguing member of the memorable characters that dwell in my mind, thanks to the journey that we traveled with him through the intricacies and complexities of his life - both the lighter and darker sides of it.

Forgetful is unique. For one thing, it addresses several themes not widely available in current fiction, e.g. the working life of an organizational development practitioner from the inside, and a slice of life in Black DC. The story of Ben Park's fading marriage is presented in an even and realistic way, avoiding the frequent tendency to find winners and losers and accepting the fact that sometimes it is what it is. The nagging doubt and fear about possible initial signs of senility are real and poignant. Many themes in this readable book.
