Donal Ryan reads from his new novel The Thing About December and his previous novelThe Spinning Heart.
Ryan's first novel, The Spinning Heart, won the 2013 Guardian First Book Award, Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, and was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize. Ryan will also read from his new novel, The Thing About December, which Sebastian Barry praised as "a force of nature, high artifice and the product of a life-enhancing talent." In both novels Ryan brilliantly chronicles the impact of the rise and fall of the Celtic Tiger on the relationships in a village. This has led Sebastian Barry to call Ryan "the chief pathologist-and poet" of the bones of the Celtic Tiger.
