WITCHES X ZAMI present: A Reading Is Sexy Experience 

Brooklyn's indie lit revolution is on its way to DC. New York based Independent publishing house Papercut Press brings you a night of poetry, readings and live music all centered around a talk on the independent versus corporate publishing worlds, ethical dilemmas and shared personal accounts, followed by a q+a featuring m. craig of Papercut Press and Christine Stoddard of Quail Bell Magazine.

Reader bios:

m. craig is the author of The Narrows—a queer, dystopian fantasy novel that addresses issues of corporate takeover, widespread environmental degradation, and rampant overconsumption in a world that it saturated with questers, magic dust, and bike punks. She is also the founder of Papercut Press. Craig joined up with Underground Editions's Rami Shamir last year to establish a new nationwide distribution network for independently published authors. www.thepcpress.com

Christine Stoddard is a writer and visual storyteller based in the Washington, D.C. area. She is also the founding editor of Quail Bell Magazine, a place for real and unreal stories. Quail Bell has been featured in Time Out New York, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, and other outlets, as well as tabled at the New York City Poetry Festival, the Virginia Festival of the Book, and 'zine festivals in Brooklyn, D.C., Philly, and Richmond. Christine has also edited and contributed to two Quail Bell anthologies published by Brandylane Publishers—The Nest: An Anthology of The Unreal and Airborne: An Anthology of The Real. Christine has forthcoming books from Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series, The History Press, and Six Gallery Press, an indie publisher. Her films have been screened at the New York Transit Museum, the Edgar Allan Poe Museum, the Side of Eye Festival at Videology in Brooklyn, and other venues. Christine's next film, Richmond's Dead and Buried, is due out this fall. Jillian McManemin is a multi-disciplinary artist, writer and actress. Her work has been presented by Anthology Film Archives, Jack Geary Contemporary Gallery, and her play Dear Johnny premiered at Dixon Place. Her current projects include the film Confederitis and the forthcoming publication of the chapbook Interior Blindness by Papercut Press.

Chessy Normile is a poet and video artist living in Brooklyn, NY. She works with the The Poet Is In, a poetry outreach project, doing readings in Washington Sq. Park on the first Sunday of every month at 6PM under the arch. http://francescanormile.virb.com/
