A Busboys and Poets in-house series! Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under, stay-at-home parents, and early rising families of all kinds.
Today's featured performer is Jessica Smith "Culture Queen"
Jessica Smith a.k.a Culture Queen is the founder and director of Culture Kingdom Kids?, a creative arts company that produces educational children?s programs that celebrate African-American cultures. Since 2010, Culture Kingdom Kids has promoted cultural heritage and awareness values through fun and interactive performances and workshops at schools, festivals, community centers and museums including the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, the Prince George?s African American Museum, the Alexandria Black History Museum and the Reginald Lewis Museum for Maryland African American History and Culture. In 2011, Ms. Smith was honored to receive the Africa Showcase Award for Excellence In Children?s Cultural Programs. In January 2012, the Prince George?s County Social Innovation Fund recognized founder Jessica Smith as one of the Top 40 Under Forty residents for her contributions to the field of Education through her work with Culture Kingdom Kids.
Open to all with a $5 suggested donation for the performer. Rise + Rhyme is held every Monday morning at 9:30 AM at Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville.
