“A Community of Poets, Creating Worldsâ€:  A Celebration of Poetry and a Fundraiser for the Hurston/Wright Foundation
As we come to the end of National Poetry Month, come meet a poet laureate – who has participated and offered leadership in the creative world.
Cornelius Eady is vice president and co-founder – along with writer Toi Derricotte -- of Cave Canem, a literary organization “committed to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of African American poets.†He is also a musician, playwright, and professor of creative writing and literature at Stony Brook University.
Mr. Eady is the author of several books of poetry, including Hardheaded Weather: New and Selected Poems (nominated for an NAACP Image Award); Victims of the Latest Dance Craze (winner of a Lamont Prize from the Academy of American Poets); The Gathering of My Name (nominated for a Pulitzer Prize); and Brutal Imagination (a National Book Award finalist). And, he is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors including an NEA Fellowship in literature, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship and the Prairie Schooner Strousse Award.
Accompanying Mr. Eady: Lisa Liu, a guitarist based in Brooklyn, NY. She plays gypsy jazz, swing, folk, and solo guitar. Liu is an Artist Ambassador for Santa Cruz Guitar Company. She is also endorsed by Krivo Pickups, and was an Artist In Residence at The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in 2018.
