Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma.
Come out and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a great +1 for a funeral. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so bring comfortable shoes). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently headline the Church of Satire comedy club. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup. Glenn Lawrence MacDonald - MC:Born in Philadelphia, PA and raised all over the US, Glenn Lawrence brings a unique perspective to comedy. Glenn has produced content via his LevelUp Comedy YouTube channel as well as produced comedy shows including the Legion M Open Mic at Sundance Film Festival 2019, the Level Up Comedy Pop Up at WICOMICON 2018, the Level Up Laughs Comedy show as part of the DC Comedy Festival 2019 and corporate comedy events for Paradigm Property Management. When not making people laugh Glenn can be found practicing yoga.
Kevin Tit is a physical embodiment of what happens after a decade’s worth of punk bands and pizza; coupled with the inability to function as a well-adjusted member of society. His life as a Stand Up Comedian began in Honolulu, Hawaii back in 2012 and has led him to perform in Festivals, clubs, music venues, bars and living rooms across the country. He now resides in DC, where he produces and hosts a series of comedy shows called PUNKHOUSE COMEDY every 4th Friday at Songbyrd Record Cafe in Adams Morgan. The Washington Post once referred to Kevin as “Surprisingly funny”. He also released his debut comedy album “Life...the best joke in town” in December 2018.
Gigi Modrich:
Gigi is a small-town girl trying to make a living in the big city. Indian law practitioner by day, comedienne and roller derby queen by night. Real-life Indian day and night. When she’s not hitting women on the track as Nasty Pelosi, she’s making a name for herself on the comedy scene. She's performed at Dangerfield's Comedy Club and Broadway Comedy Club in NYC, the DC Improv, and many other places throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. She’s also hosted at the 2018 Charm City Comedy Festival. Gigi is sarcastically optimistic and aspires to make you laugh so hard your drink comes out your nose.
Ralph Cooper:
Ralph started doing comedy back in 2005 because his mother told him he was funny, but got serious in 2010 because his wife said they needed rent. Ralph provides a candid and intelligent approach towards comedy. He gives an intimate look into his life experiences from growing up overseas to college life to raising kids. Ralph has a raw sharp sense of humor that appeals to a broad audience. Ralph has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and Canada at venues such as DC Improv (DC), Eastville Comedy Club (NY), Betty’s (Toronto). He has also been featured on television, radio and internet broadcasts, including Capitol Comedy Connection and National Public Radio.
