Description:

The A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) open discussion series is hosted by Busboys and Poets as a community service. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action! Each month there is a new topic for discussion.

This Month's Topic: Preview and Discussion of "The Art of Interpretation- Powerful Voices: Africa and the Americas" Art Exhibit Howard University

Attending artists:

Kine Aw; Joel Crooms; Greta Chapin McGill; Patsye Delatour; Hamid Kachmar; Dwight Tyler

Arts and culture from the African diaspora are spotlighted during Black History Month every year with the effort to highlight the contributions and legacy of Black people – in America, on the African continent and all points in between. The Howard University Alumni Club of Greater Washington, DC (HUAC GWDC) is one of the various organizations paying homage to the observance during the month of February with a month-long art exhibit kicking off February 7, 2019 with an opening night reception at Pepco Edison Gallery in Washington, DC from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Art of Interpretation (TAOI) event is the fifth annual scholarship fundraiser and fine art exhibit which benefits the local alumni club’s scholarship program which awards financial gifts to Howard University students every year. This year’s installment, “Powerful Voices: Africa and the Americas,” is particularly special because the exhibit, which is usually a one-night display, will run throughout the month, offering Pepco Edison Gallery visitors the opportunity to be exposed to a spectacle of paintings, sculptures, and Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4.

Free and open to all.

A.C.T.O.R. is held on the first Sunday of every month at Busboys and Poets 14th & V from 5:00 PM-7:00 pm.
