Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in TakomaÂ
Come out and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!
Produced by Allan Sidley:
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a great +1 for a funeral. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so bring comfortable shoes). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at the Church of Satire comedy club, and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup.
Comedians:
Simone - MC:Â Simone is a Washington DC comedian who has performed standup comedy on DC main stages such as the DC Improv and DC Drafthouse for nationally touring headliners such as Amir K & Bob Marley. Simone has also performed internationally in London, England, France, Iceland, and South Africa. His eye for the absurdities of cultural politics and his unique writing and performance style wows audiences. Audience members have called him "hilarious" and "hysterically funny", while bookers have labeled Simone "brilliant" and a " star."
Kasha Patel: Kasha is an American science writer, stand-up comedian, voice artist, and podcaster. She has produced the only regularly-recurring science comedy shows in the United States since 2014. She has been featured on BBC World News, The Washington Post, appeared on the Travel Channel’s “Mysteries at the Museum,†and hosted a mini series on NASA TV.
Reem Seeliem: Reem Seliem is an Egyptian/Philadelphian who started being funny in 2011, when she accepted a dare at an open mic. She's hosted a women’s theatre festival (2017 Philly Women’s Theatre Festival), wrote and hosted a monthly sketch comedy show (“Good Morning New Miamiâ€, Good Good Comedy Theatre), and hosted an evening of stand up at a Middle Eastern arts festival (2018 Yalla Punk Festival). She’s now in D.C. where she does improv at Washington Improv Theater (WIT) and has done stand-up for Underground Comedy and Project Thalia.
Katie McKelvie:Â Katie McKelvie is a D.C.-based comic and the mother of two slightly feral children. She loves a comfort shoe, sparkling wine in a can, and naps. Katie has performed at venues throughout the D.C. area and at the She-Devil Comedy Festival, the North Carolina Comedy Festival, and the Charm City Comedy Festival.Eddie Morrison:
A DC based stand-up comedian and actor. A native of the area, he regularly performs all over the DMV (as well as all over the country). His appearances include The Comedy Store (LA), DC Improv, and the Kennedy Center as part of the District of Comedy Festival.
