A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Anthony Oakes

Hailing from North Carolina, Anthony D. Oakes is a District of Columbia resident who is taking comedy on the east coast by storm. His clean, yet edgy, southern, intellectual, witty humor will have you reeling with laughter. Performance cities include: Atlanta, New York, LA, Chicago, Virginia, Maryland, and DC. He has graced the stages of The Broadway, The Westside, and The Greenwich Village Comedy Clubs, in New York City. You can catch him locally at: The DC Drafthouse, The Bier Baron Comedy Loft, The Wonderland Ballroom, and Busboys and Poets. He also produces several comedy shows in the DMV area. Anthony currently host a radio show every Thursday at WLVS Radio called, Thursday Night Tea with Anthony, and can be found on all social media outlets.

Paris Sashay is comedienne, actor, and producer from Washington, DC. Her command as a seasoned storyteller makes even the mundane experience feel like an adventure. Audiences across the country fall in love with her infectious laugh, wit, and style.

Nothing can stop Paris’ ascension to stardom, unequivocally one of the funniest rising comediennes with highlight performances at the Howard Theatre (DC), The Kennedy Center(DC), Comedy Store (LA), Caroline’s on Broadway (NY) and BET. She triumphantly debuted at the DC Improv only days after losing several teeth in a brutal attack by a toxic man sexually harassing her on the street. In 2016, Paris launched the #TeethAndTittiesCampaign raising awareness about violence against women.

Paris has featured for Dick Gregory, Domonique, Sampson McCormick, Jen Kirkman, and Michael Che offering her piercing insight on issues of the day. She has been a panel member on “Wild’n Out Wednesday’s with Roland Martin” on TV One, BET and interviewed on Fox 5 DC, NBC 4 Washington, and WUSA 9 regarding her assault. Additionally, Paris frequently serves as a motivational speaker, having the honor of being the 2013 Commencement Speaker at The Foundation School in Gaithersburg, MD.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
