A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Tatiana Figueroa-Ramirez
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the mainland United States, Tatiana Figueroa Ramirez graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and is a VONA Voices Alumna, having worked with award winning poets Willie Perdomo and Danez Smith. She also completed the Poetry Teaching Artist Training Program under Jonathan B. Tucker and an artist residency in Santo Domingo. Tatiana currently performs and teaches poetry workshops in the greater Washington DC area, having previously done so in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic at venues including New York University, The Kennedy Center, and The Howard Theatre. Jaylene Clark Owens is a Philly resident from Harlem, NY. She is a highly acclaimed poet, as well as an AUDELCO and Barrymore Award winning actress. Jaylene competed in the Apollo Theater Amateur Night competition, in which she won 1st place for her spoken word poem, "SoHa." She advanced three times in the competition, ending as a finalist in the Super Top Dog competition. She is proudly one of the co-writers of Renaissance in the Belly of a Killer Whale, the award winning, spoken word infused play about gentrification in Harlem. Her debut book of poetry, AfroPoetic, is now available on Amazon. Her poem, “My Voice, My Choice†was a runner-up in the 2018 Button Poetry Video Contest. Jaylene’s poetry is powerful, engaging, and her performance combines elements of her background as a professional actress. For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats. Sorry, no refunds.Â
