A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Jael Benjamin
Originally from Atlanta, Jael began honing in on her skills in the DMV poetry scenes in 2017. She’s worked, shared stages, featured and competed with some of the best poets in the country. With having only performed poetry in church or open mics, Jael stepped into the poetry slam scene for the first time and took home the title of the 2018 Beltway Poetry Grand Slam champion. Through poetry Jael aspires to tell her truth with hopes that others will reveal theirs and realize someone in the world is waiting on them to find and share their undiscovered diamond.

Kyla Jenee Lacey is primarily a spoken word artist who has performed at over 100 colleges and universities in over 30 states. Her first poem was published when she was ten years old. She has been a three time finalist in the largest regional poetry slam in the country and nominated for numerous awards for college performers. She has a modest Facebook following due to her slight humor, her love for logic, her cynicism and love for cats. She is also feminist, blacktivist, LGBT ally, budding blogger and tree hugger.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
