A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Alexa Patrick
Alexa Patrick is a singer and poet from Connecticut. She is a graduate of American University, where she studied Psychology, African-American and African Diaspora Studies, and Spanish. Alexa is a Cave Canem Fellow, and holds teaching positions through Split This Rock, The University of the District of Columbia, and the Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University. She is the current head coach of the award-winning DC Youth Slam Team, and has also coached the slam teams of American University and George Washington University for the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational. FEATURING: KOSI DUNN
Mandla 'Kosi' Dunn is a South African-American writer, emcee, and teaching-artist from PG County, Maryland. Kosi completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland - College Park in Transmedia Storytelling, a major he developed through the Individual Studies program which explores the intersection of speculative fiction and emerging media. Kosi currently serves as an Artist Mentor and Musical Performance Coordinator at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden’s ARTLAB+ teen digital arts studio. He has competed in poetry slams as a member of the DC Youth Slam Team and the UMD Terpoets Slam Team. Kosi is a former Busboys & Poets open mic host and has performed poetry at venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Arena Stage, and the State Theater in South Africa. He occasionally DJs under the moniker DJ PLOT TWIST. He likes cherry blowpops and Dungeons & Dragons.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
