Description:

Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma

Come out and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!

Produced by Allan Sidley:

A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack of all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or enjoying the occasional funeral. Often serious with a hint of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes. His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."

He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at the DC Drafthouse and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup.

About the Comedians:

Randolph Terrance:

DC-based comic Randolph Terrance has worked with some of the biggest names in stand-up, and is a consummate professional with the ability to make any group of people laugh. His comedic style is described as “strictly for the grown and sexy,” pairing a smooth delivery with sharp, funny material that engages your mind while tickling your funny bone! Personal observations, family encounters, strong opinions, life experiences both good and bad all find their way into routines that are as hilarious as they are smart and universal.

Yogi: Yogi is a Virginia based stand-up comic Straight Outta Mumbai, India. In Mumbai he was among the millions of millionaire slum dogs fighting for the right to leave and come to NOVA in search of an affordable vinyl free brick home. He celebrates ethnic stereotypes and distorts global, racial, cultural, social, moral and culinary identity. His wisdom spans three decades of going from an “on-the-job-guilt-ridden-doodler” to being guilt-free. A perfect misfit, socially awkward, bilaterally symmetrical, artificially intelligent and a koala in bed. Your typical “Software Update - Not Now” kind of guy, who wants nothing more than to make you laugh. You snooze, hey ! you snooze, basically, you never lose.

Nicole Walkow:

Nicole is a volunteer stand-up comedian in Washington DC. Nicole is like a single puzzle piece, edgy & dry. When she's not telling jokes on stage in the DMV area, or writing jokes in the bathroom at her grocery store job, she can be found reading at home. She also likes snacks. Jamal Russell:

Jamal started performing comedy in college in Boston, and has been doing it for about a year now. He recently moved back to DC. On stage, he's self-deprecating and tells stories about his family and life adventures. Offstage an avid movie watcher, football buff (49ers fan), and enjoyer of naps.

Sami Sfeir:

Sami is a talented, fast-rising comedian based in Washington, DC. He's been seen at the dc improv, the Arlington Drafthouse, and as a regular performer for underground comedy.

Matt Deakins:Matt Deakins is a stand-up comedian. He lives in Virginia. When people ask him, he says Washington D.C. He’s performed in these places: Pittsburgh Improv, DC Drafthouse, Charlotte Comedy Zone. He’s performed with these people: John Huck, Jordan Carlos, Dustin Diamond. "You're my favorite Comedian." - Matt Deakins.
