Description:

Please join us in the Langston Room for  No One Wants to Believe the Garden is Dying: American poets against US sanctions on Iran.

The title of the event reflects the suffering the people of Iran have been subject to since US president Donald Trump imposed new economic sanctions on the country; the sanctions he himself has labeled as the “toughest ever”. Also, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that it is in Iran’s best interests to toe the line and listen to Washington or else its people will pay the price.

According to United Nations Special Rapporteur Idriss Jazairy, “these unjust and harmful sanctions are destroying the economy and currency of Iran, driving millions of people into poverty and making imported goods unaffordable”.

Some well-known figures in American and Iranian poetry such as Charles Bernstein, Pierre Joris and Sepideh Jodeyri to join this cultural event and recite their poems against US sanction on the people of Iran with Persian classical music, slideshow.

Iranian traditional music and song performed by Roya Bahrami.
