Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in TakomaÂ
Come out on November 6th and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!

Comedian, producer, and stay-at-home Son, Allan helped raise his single Mother on the mean streets of Vienna, VA. She's still a single Mother...in case whoever is reading this is interested in dating an older Jewish lady.
He recently featured at the DC Drafthouse, and was the opening act at the Laugh Index Festival (DC). Under his company Sidley Standup, he produces stand-up shows in the DMV.
About the Comedians:
Robin Hazel: Robin is a Baltimore-based comic, originally from New York, by way of Pennsylvania. Her comedy has been described asâ€energetic,’ ‘honest,’ and ‘uninhibited.’ She has been known to perform while breastfeeding, or with a baby on her shoulders. Ask her about it. Martin Phillips: Martin is a comedian around the DC area. Since being named Funniest College Student in DC he hasn’t stopped performing! He’s performed at clubs like the Improv and Funny Bone. He hosts a weekly comedy show during happy hour at Saint Ex on Thursdays at 6. He has a podcast called Comic’s Corner available where everywhere podcasts are found. Be sure to check Martin out around town!
Simone: Simone is a Washington DC comedian who has performed standup comedy on DC main stages such as the DC Improv and DC Drafthouse for nationally touring headliners such as Amir K & Bob Marley. Simone has also performed internationally in London, England, France, Iceland, and South Africa. His eye for the absurdities of cultural politics and his unique writing and performance style wows audiences. Audience members have called him "hilarious" and "hysterically funny", while bookers have labeled Simone "brilliant" and a " star."
Chris Blackwood: Chris is a stand-up comedian based in Washington, DC. For more than a decade he has performed in clubs, festivals, and creepy dive bars all across the US, and has done shows in 10 countries abroad. Chris’s comedy follows the trials and tribulations of his struggle with adulthood and figuring life out in the 21st century. From his awkward cross-cultural encounters as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, to his spontaneous move to San Francisco to pursue comedy without a job or place to live.
Kandace Saunders: Kandace made her comedic debut in 2006 during a comedy competition at the DC Improv. Although she didn’t win, she didn’t get booed, and people laughed. So for Kandace, that was enough to pursue a career in standup comedy. Kandace’s sarcasm, and quick wit, coupled with her ability to turn life into “extremely laughable situationsâ€, has allowed her to become one of today’s fastest rising comedians. You can catch Kandace at comedy clubs and colleges across the country.
Jelani Wills: Hailing from Washington, DC Jelani delivers witty and honest takes on subjects ranging from Pokémon to police brutality. As a private school grad and loyal Kwanzaa Celebrator ,Jelani brings audiences a unique perspectives. Jelani has performed at various comedy clubs, and theaters throughout the country including Magoobys Joke House, State Theater, Dangerfields Comedy Club, and The Church of Satire.
