Description:

Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma

Come out on September 18th and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!

Hosted by Allan Sidley:

Comedian, producer, and stay-at-home Son, Allan helped raise his single Mother on the mean streets of Vienna, VA. She's still a single Mother...in case whoever is reading this is interested in dating an older Jewish lady.

He recently featured at the DC Drafthouse, and was the opening act at the Laugh Index Festival (DC). Under his company Sidley Standup, he produces stand-up shows in the DMV.

About the Comedians:

Von Michael: Von Michael's been ripping up the stage from Newport to Baltimore for years opening for DC Legend Tony Woods and other greats like Deion Cole. He's got a laid back style but a sharp eye and keen mind. He's also one of the hardest working guys on the local scene. We love this dude and feel lucky to have him on our stage.

Gina Brown: Gina Brown is a DC based stand-up comedian, show producer, published writer, poet, and spoken word artist. She recently made her acting debut in the upcoming film “Interiors.” She performs all over the country, and has even performed in Aruba. Her piece, Rush Hour, is published in District Lines, Volume III, a publication of Politics & Prose Bookstore, and her poem, How To Kill A Roach, is published in Roach Print Anthology. Check out ginabrown.com for more information on her creative projects.

Jose Sanchez: Jose Sanchez performs in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. every day to hone his comedic talents. Armed with a vivid blend of real life observations and growing up Salvadorean in the United States, he has won audiences over from coast-to-coast. Known for his high energy, on and off the stage, Jose is a comic that is sure to make a name for himself. He has performed at The State Theatre, The Laugh Factory & was part of the Underground Comedy Festival last year.

Ross Benoit: Originally from Massachusetts Ross is a DC based stand-up comic. You can see him hosting shows and performing at venues all around the DMV. He's performed at the DC Improv and Kennedy center, and is the host of the Smiley Frown Podcast.

Haywood Turnipseed Jr: Haywood is the founder of Attack of the Comics and has over a decade of experience in making people laugh all over the country. He has performed at the Kennedy Center; The DC Improv; Brightest Young Things 'Bentzen Ball' Curated by Tig Nataro; the Underground Comedy Festival; & the Baltimore Comedy Festival. Haywood has even toured internationally, opening for greats like Tony Woods; Sarah Colonna; Baron Vaughn; Wyatt Cenac; Hannibal Buress; and Dana Gould. In his spare time he volunteers as a football, and basketball coach at Ft Stanton Rec Center; plays the saxophone; and plays a mean game of pinball.
Seating is first come first served. Full menu & bar will be available throughout the event.

Jani Tillery: Jani had been performing for 4 years and have performed locally and in comedy festivals all over the country including the San Francisco Comedy Competition, Boston Comedy Festival, Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, SheDot Festival (Toronto, Canada), North Carolina Comedy Festival, and several others.

Seating is first come first served. Full menu & bar will be available throughout the event.
