From Fannie Elssler to Lisa Gardiner and Mary Day, Doris Jones and Claire Heywood, Pola Nirenska, Liz Lerman, Maida Withers, Carla Perlo, and many others, strong, fearless women have contributed to building greater Washington, D.C.’s dance community. Come learn about D.C. dance history, where we’ve been as a community of choreographers, educators and dancers and where we might be going. Lisa Traiger, a longtime observer of and writer on dance in the D.C. metropolitan area, will discuss our local D.C. dance history.
