In partnership with Busboys and Poets, SYDC will for the first time showcase art created by parents and staff. Come join us for an evening of celebration, connection, and conversation at this vernissage.
We know that while systemic racism ravages our society, there is a personal root to this problem, which is the inability to see others as fully human. In 2016, Two Rivers Public Charter School decided to do something about these biases by creating a "learning expedition" for parents and staff in order to build connection across difference. This experience was called Share Your DC (SYDC). Participants pushed themselves to create poster art that showcases their identity in DC in order to invite conversation, challenge bias, and acknowledge privilege. SYDC completed its fifth cohort and the program will be adapted at another school in January 2019.
