Description:

Christine Otten is the author of the novel The Last Poets, which is based on the lives of the legendary hip-hop pioneers. Christine Otten, a Dutch author, spent three months traveling across the United States interviewing members of The Last Poets, their families, friends, and musicians. During that time, she developed a close bond with Umar Bin Hassan, one of The Last Poets. Umar says about Christine “Christine is a real... Whitegirl. A SERIOUS DUTCH WHITEGIRL! But she's our Whitegirl!”

Both Christine Otten and Umar Bin Hassan will be present at this event. Christine will read from the title The Last Poets and Umar will perform a few spoken-word poems. The reading will be followed by a Q&A with both artists and book signing.

Christine Otten is a Dutch writer, journalist, and performer. The Last Poets provided her well-deserved breakthrough to a wider audience. The book was nominated for the prestigious Dutch Libris Literature Prize, and has been adapted for the stage. Otten regularly performs at literary festivals and in theaters. She holds writing workshops in Amsterdam for the homeless and for prisoners.

This event is co-sponsored by World Editions.
