Join lawyer and activist Ewuare X. Osayande for an empowering reading from his book Our Breath is the Whisper of Our Ancestors’ Defiance.
On June 19, 2026, Busboys & Poets - Takoma will be the site for an afternoon of inspiring and empowering poetry with poet and activist Ewuare X. Osayande. Osayande is the author of several books of poetry including Blood Luxury with an introduction by Amiri Baraka, Whose America? with an introduction by Haki R. Madhubuti, and Black Phoenix Uprising. His latest collection, Our Breath is the Whisper of Our Ancestors' Defiance, has been called the poetic testament of the Black Lives Matter generation by Dr. Joyce A. Joyce, author of Ijala: Sonia Sanchez and the African Poetic Tradition.
With Our Breath is the Whisper of Our Ancestors' Defiance, Osayande is our impassioned ambassador of Blackness, extolling the virtues of justice as love in poems that read like psalms and proverbs for a world on fire.
Join us as we honor the past and fight for the future! And you know the menu will not miss!
Arrive early as the event will begin promptly at 5 PM.
