Join Mohammed Abu-Nimer, Matt Meyer, Diane Perlman, and Richard Rubenstein for the launch of TRANSCEND US, a post-partisan, politically independent, interdisciplinary social science META-TANK, designed to catalyze a paradigm shift in U.S. policy and practice. Intended to bring together think-tank policy analysts, grassroots organizers, academics and students, elected officials, cultural workers, and more, Transcend US will work towards a model capable of transforming conflicts and generating enduring security, inspired by the legacy of Johan Galtung and other leaders in the field of peace studies and conflict transformation. Perlman, who will serve as Transcend US’ Executive Director, will introduce the organizational concept and vision; Rubenstein (GMU Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution) will discuss the history and current context for our work. Meyer, whose latest book Beyond Our Current Boundaries: Peace Studies from Africa and the Global South (2025) will be featured at the event, will review his tenure as Secretary-General of the International Peace Research Association. Abu-Nimer (AU School of International Service, Director of Peacebuilding and Development Institute) will discuss transcending our contemporary quagmires towards the building of lasting peace with justice.
Busboys and Poets founder Andy Shallal will introduce the event.
