Description:

Join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome Community Cares, Community Does for a Closing Ceremony and Story Slam complete with recognition ceremony, readings, and gifts.

CC, CD’s Stories Project (a completely “home grown” initiative in response to requests for support in the literature and drama area) will be held at Harriet Tubman Elementary School in May of this year. This exciting project will facilitate students in disadvantaged circumstances to articulate heartfelt messages otherwise untold, while developing communication and writing skills to empower their future. 15 students will meet in three small group sessions in May to discuss literature, identify their story concept, and then write their story. Then, at the end, students and volunteers will enjoy a “Closing Ceremony/Story Slam” at Busboys and Poets, complete with recognition ceremony, readings, and gifts.

CC,CD was formed in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation. It has provided, or facilitated, among other things, programs in leadership, careers, conflict resolution, school improvements, celebratory events, and literature and drama to hundreds of students in the most underprivileged and underserved neighborhoods. The mission of Community Cares, Community Does is to contribute to facilitating the mental, physical and emotional development and growth of students in schools in the most underprivileged and underserved neighborhoods. We will build, and serve as, a matching clearinghouse for schools, corporate and civic partner organizations, and volunteers, so that interested stakeholders can come together and create sustainable programs at these schools, eliminating the roadblock often encountered in how those in need can find those who want to help, and vice versa. We will also work directly with principals at such schools to provide supplemental goods and services to the students most in need. Community Cares, Community Does will execute all of this so as to foster a nurturing, supportive school ecosystem, enabling participating students to further their path to being successful upon leaving school and to becoming valuable adult contributors to the community.
