Description:

Please join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome local author Teodrose Fikre for a conversation about race and identity in America.

Teodrose Fikre is the founder and editor of the Ghion Journal. A first generation immigrant from Ethiopia. Teodrose Fikre is a visionary author who is passionate about justice for all irrespective of our differences. Teodorse is named after and is the grandson five generations removed of Emperor Tewodros II—a revered king and visionary leader of Ethiopia. Teodrose writes of the hope possible in unity while addressing the very issues that lead to the scale of inequity that is pervasive in our era.

Born in Ethiopia the same year Emperor Haile Selassie was overthrown in 1974, Teodrose is a prolific writer whose speech idea was incorporated into Barack Obama's South Carolina primary victory speech in 2008. A lot has changed in the intervening years, a transformation caused by the most unlikely of circumstances which led to Teodrose's education of our common bonds and humanity's struggles without regard to the barriers that are erected to separate us. Teodrose's pen is poignant, writing of love and loss, injustice and resilience. Most important, Teodrose's writing is a critique of our time and a much needed focus on the issues that divide us. Using moving testimony and historical narratives, Teodrose gives voice to the core of our collective struggle that often gets blurred by manufactured outrages and stoked grievances.

You can find out more about Teodrose Fikre and read more of his work by going to www.ghionjournal.com where he posts insights and articles about politics, history, culture and faith on a regular basis.

Books will be available before and during the event. Please contact books@busboysandpoets.com with questions.
