A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Joseph LMS Green
Joseph Green is Split This Rock's Youth Programs Coordinator. He is the co-founder and Program Director of poetryN.O.W., an after-school creative writing program working with students throughout the DC metropolitan area. poetryN.O.W., in collaboration with Split This Rock, helped bring Louder Than a Bomb, a regional youth slam serving as a platform for young people to share their stories across boundaries, to the DMV. poetryN.O.W. also organizes the Hyperbole, the largest individual poetry slam for high-school students in the Mid-Atlantic region. 2015 marked Joseph’s fifth return to the national team competition, this time as a representative of the DC Poetry Slam Team. He also represented DC in 2011 at the Individual Poetry Slam, ranking 16th in the world. He has over ten years experience as a professional spoken word artist and writer. Current Joseph is the Youth Programs Coordinator at Split This Rock. In addition to his work in youth development, Joseph also travels the country as a motivational speaker and recovery advocate.

Baltimore native Nina ‘Lyrispect’ Ball is an award-winning writer and performing artist who seeks to empower and transform through meaningful work in the arts.She is an advocate and activist for women, girls, people of color and marginalized communities. She has been a teaching artist for over 18 years, Lyrispect employs activism as an organizer, speaker and,producer, working with organizations such as Black Girls Rock, The Mural Arts Program and Array Releasing which gives women and independent filmmakers of color an opportunity for wide distribution. She received her B.A. at Temple University as a Film and African-American Studies major after graduating from the highly competitive Baltimore School for the Arts as a classically trained actress..In 2014, Lyrispect authored a collection of poetry, "The PreCursor", the first of seven in her creative multi-media series, "Spectrum of a Supernova"Lyrispect is musically driven and believes that pure art heals, inspires and changes lives
For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats. Sorry, no refunds.
