Description:

"Monday Night THRIVE Writing Workshop" hosted by Lissa Piercy, sponsored by Poets & Writers and hosted by Busboys and Poets Books.

Mirror of Masks: This workshop introduces Persona Poems, and how to carefully write from a perspective that is not your own. Inspired by monologues from August Wilson’s “Fences,” the purpose is to re-envision a narrative, suspend writing “norms”, and celebrate the imagination. Janae will examine and review theater, fiction, and musical influences in order to introduce a new character to your writing.

About Janae: Janae Johnson is the Women of the World 2015 Poetry Champion and 2015 National Poetry Slam Champion. She is co-founder of poetry venues The Root Slam (Oakland, CA) and The House Slam (Boston, MA). Her work has appeared on ESPN, PBS Newshour, Blavity, Kinfolks: A Journal of Black Expression, and more.

This event is free and supported in part by Poets & Writers. "To RSVP, email LissaPiercyProjects@gmail.com subject line "THRIVE Writing Workshop"
