Typically, those labeled as outsider artists have little or no contact with the mainstream art world or art institutions. In many cases, their work is discovered only after their deaths. Often, outsider art illustrates extreme mental states, unconventional ideas, or elaborate fantasy worlds.

Elva Anderson, Ph.D. is a health educator and art therapist at Childrens’ National Medical Center. Her personal work is currently on display at the Busboys and Poets Brookland
Dolly Vehlow is an award winning graphic designer, founder/sponsor of H Street Festival and co-founder and director of Gallery O on H Street, NE. She is a curator and collector of Outside Art. “Obituaries” from the Gallery O on H Street collection is currently on display at Busboys and Poets, Brookland.
