Andy Shallal to discuss his new book, A Seat at the Table: the Making of Busboys and Poets
Join Busboys and Poets Founder / CEO Andy Shallal at Books in Bloom 2025 for an Exclusive Pre-Release Celebration of A Seat at the Table
Be among the first to get your hands on A Seat at the Table: The Making of Busboys and Poets—before its official release in September! On Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Color Burst Park, join acclaimed author, artist, and activist Andy Shallal as he shares stories from his inspiring new memoir about building Busboys and Poets, the beloved Washington, D.C. restaurant and progressive cultural hub named in honor of Langston Hughes.
In this engaging and personal conversation, Andy will be joined on stage by celebrated poet and literary icon E. Ethelbert Miller for a thoughtful discussion about the intersections of food, activism, community, and art. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to hear Andy’s story, ask questions, and get your personally signed copy of the book—available only at this event before it hits shelves nationwide.
Part memoir, part social commentary, A Seat at the Table is a candid, humorous, and thought-provoking journey through Andy’s life—from working in his family’s pizza shop to founding a restaurant chain that has welcomed everyone from Alice Walker and Angela Davis to Ralph Nader and Jesse Jackson.
This event is part of the Ninth Annual Books in Bloom Festival, a free, all-ages celebration of literature and ideas, featuring author talks, book signings, and interactive experiences.
Don’t miss your chance to grab A Seat at the Table.
