Description:

Join us for a captivating discussion about the potential of how the performing arts can and has served as a compliment advocating and achieving progressive policies for social justice. Come join the discussion with Institute for Policy Studies’ Executive Director Tope Folarin, WPFW’s Katea Stitt, and Jonathan McCrory, Artistic Director of National Black Theatre. This event is inspired by the upcoming music healing experience titled The Gathering: A Collective Sonic Ring Shout coming to The Kennedy Center for one night only on Saturday, June 1st.

The Gathering: A Collective Sonic Ring Shout is a sonic experience that will have you singing, dancing, and shouting on Saturday, June 1st. After a sold-out show in Harlem’s world famous Apollo, the show comes to Washington DC for one night only. DC Theater Arts calls The Gathering “a safe space for healing from social unrest” and Washington Informer called "a powerful musical journey.”

Inspired by the historic ring shout—a ritual movement created by enslaved ancestors —"The Gathering" embodies centuries of Black faith and resilience. (SEE VIDEO HERE)

Proudly presented by National Black Theatre and The Apollo, the live concert features Nona Hendryx, Toshi Reagon, Joel Thompson, an 80-person orchestra and 50-person choral group and more!
