Singer and songwriter from the Mayan Kaqchikel people, a young woman from a post-genocide generation in Guatemala who undertakes a journey through memory, connecting stories from the past and present.
In a post-genocide context, where crimes against humanity were committed, with more than two hundred thousand murders and forty-five thousand missing persons and twenty-seven years after the signing of the Peace Agreements, there are still challenges in the face of the impunity that prevails in Guatemala. Therefore, art as a way of resilience and resistance has been a means to record memory, to discuss it and to convey to new generations about the importance of recognizing the truth, the search for justice and the guarantees of Non-repetition.
Currently, Ch'umilkaj is promoting a documentary called Nataxik (memory).
