Join us in the Nicolás Guillén room to meet local artists, Jennifer Dreyfus and Katie Jett Walls, who will be exhibiting their work in conjunction with the 2017 Takoma Park Art Hop!

Jennifer Dreyfus was originally drawn to the encaustic printing process from a background in batik and papermaking. Finding that paper, wax, texture and color combine in new ways each time she works, Jennifer enjoys exploring the edge where random occurrences create beauty – where happenstance brings forth interest. As in life, there is much that is mundane or tragic. The challenge is, in the quieter moments, to find beauty and interest along the way.
Katie Jett Walls is a Washington DC-based photographer. Between commissions creating visual narratives for families and small businesses, Katie trains her eye and lens on stories that connect us as human beings. The stories she sees are the stories that we have in common, but are lost unless we pause to see them, feel them and remember them. This exhibit is part of her on-going project, District in the Time of Choleric, a street-level look at the reactions to the Trump administration. Katie writes, "I live in Washington DC, where our local news is everyone else's national news; where the drama of the new administration unfolds in real time; locus for protests and power players. As a documentary photographer, I record what is happening in my city and the reactions of those who live here and those who travel here to make their voices heard.
