America: An Immigration Nation is a documentary that chronicles the history of immigration to America It also shows the "4 great waves" of immigration that occurred throughout American history. Unlike other films on this topic AIN also describes the beginnings of "nativism" and the racist nativist attitudes that were directed towards most immigrant groups arriving to these shores beginning in the mid 1800's.
What makes America: An Immigration Nation relevant today, is the fact that these nativist sentiments have resurfaced with the election of this new President..
This film also addresses our current issues around immigration, including deportation the state of DACA, and THE DREAM ACT both of which are currently affecting them and families of our most recent immigrant group the Latinos.
This documentary is pertinent, extremely timely, and relevant to the occurrences in America's political discourse today.
