The book Mali Saveti za Bolji Život (A Little Advice for a Better Life) is a commentary on everyday life and its contradictions in contemporary America.
Milena Trobozic Garfield writes in unpretentious and often self-deprecating way about her own everyday experience in the affluent East Coast suburbs: kitchens not meant for cooking, dogs on Prozac, weekend vacations, feminism without gender equality, the end of romance, public solitude, American optimism turned into American anxiety, smart houses, the end of old age, shopping as entertainment and more generally about art, culture and media in America. In sum, she writes about a Western World whose modernity often borders on absurdity.
Compiled from pieces written for Serbian media over the years, Garfield’s wry observations fall into various thematic segments. But together they paint a landscape – or a vast Atlantic Oceanscape – illustrating the differences between the American and European ways of life.
