Who would listen to the voice of a battered woman? Who would give an ear to her hurts, pains, and abuses? Who would understand her vulnerabilities, insecurities, and flaws? Who would love her through her pain, carry her, protect, and heal her?
Grace’s name means “God favors me†and throughout her life, as she reflects on the yesterdays, she can espy the movement of God as He protected her when her first husband struck her, pushed her, debased her and even raped her. Grace was afraid to vocalize or express her feelings and emotions. Her voice died at the hands of an abusive husband, and it would take years for her to express her true self and receive deliverance.
Fear stagnates and holds its prey with a relentless grip of desperation and agony. Grace found herself in a place of dejection, distress, unhappiness, despondency, and a heart heavy with sadness. Giving voice to her feelings would cause more grief to come upon her.
But God!
God heard, He saw, He felt, He healed. Grace was never alone. God favored her. Although she could not see God in her life’s challenges, and it appeared that He was not there, He walked with her through every moment.
