Description:

BUSBOYS AND POETS BOOKS PRESENTS QUEER BOOK CLUB: SPECIAL EDITION!

Busboys Books invites you to join us for community, queerness, and maybe some chaos with our Queer Book Club

Every last Sunday of the month we'll be hosting Queer Book Club led by Nathan, the Takoma Bookstore Supervisor, at Busboys and Poets Takoma. There we'll gather to discuss a specific book by a queer author or about a queer subject matter. This book club is for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ and wants to talk about queer books; you can also attend as an ally or if you're questioning! Show up for good food, good books, and good friends - plus, when you show up you get 15% off your bookstore purchase for that day!

We’re celebrating the release of HEARTSTOPPER: SEASON TWO by holding a watch party right after it releases!

Schedule
6:00-6:30 pm: Discussion of Alice Oseman’s books and the tv show adaptation of Heartstopper

6:30-7:00 pm: Jeopardy-style trivia game about Heartstopper (both books and season 1 of the show) and other Alice Oseman books - the winner gets a free surprise Oseman book!

7:00-8:00 pm: Watching Episodes 1 and 2 of Heartstopper Season 2

Goodies

We will provide snacks and if you want a full dinner, you can easily order from the Busboys restaurant! We will also have pages featuring drawings from the official Heartstopper Coloring Book available throughout the night for guests.

To celebrate the new season, all copies of Alice Oseman’s books will be offered at 15% off.

Cost

Free! If you’re able to, we ask for a suggested donation of $5 to help support our free bookstore programming and help us put on future events like this.

About the Book and Show

Heartstopper: The Graphic Novel - Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. A sweet and charming coming-of-age story that explores friendship, love, and coming out.

Shy and softhearted Charlie Spring sits next to rugby player Nick Nelson in class one morning. A warm and intimate friendship follows, and that soon develops into something more for Charlie, who doesn't think he has a chance.

But Nick is struggling with feelings of his own, and as the two grow closer and take on the ups and downs of high school, they come to understand the surprising and delightful ways in which love works.

Heartstopper: The Series - Based on the graphic novels of the same name by series creator Alice Oseman, Heartstopper follows high school sweetie Charlie (Joe Locke), who develops a crush on jock classmate Nick (Kit Connor). The series always chooses heart-stopping romance over trauma, a welcome tone for teen coming-out stories.

We’ll be watching Season 2, which releases on August 3 - for a recap of Season 1, check out this article.

Nathan (they/them) is the Bookstore Supervisor at Busboys Takoma, and is thrilled to be moving and expanding their long-running Ace and Aro Book Club over to Busboys. They are an event organizer with Aces and Aros of the Mid-atlantic, which is cosponsoring this club. They are a life-long resident of Washington, DC and are most passionate about reading science fiction, horror, fantasy, queer theory, and queer romance - but this book club will not be limited by their tastes!
