A Busboys and Poetry event hosted this week by Twain Dooley
Twain Dooley is a first generation American. He was born of Jamaican parents sometime between the assassinations of Malcom X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Growing up in the Washington, DC public school system, with a name like Twain Dooley, one either learns to fight or develops a sense of humor. Since Twain fights with his words, he has become a poet. Upon returning to his hometown after a short stay in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Twain began reading his poetry, touring, and writing books with the group he co-founded, The Modern Urban Griots. He has since then won a position on nine nationally competitive poetry slam teams, was the DC/ Baltimore slam champion a record three times, and performed all over the country. Twain lives with his fellow poet and wife, Gail Danley and their three children. He is still working on the story of his life “None of This Makes Sense”.
For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online here at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door if available. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
