Description:

The A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) open discussion series is hosted by Busboys and Poets as a community service. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action! Each month there is a new topic for discussion.

This month's topic: March For Racial Justice Recap

The March for Racial Justice is a black and indigenous-led multi-community movement united in our demands for racial equity and justice. We are calling for a reversal of laws, policies, and practices that hasten inequality, dehumanize people of color and maintain white supremacy. We march because as long as U.S. laws, policies, and practices remain steeped in white supremacy, basic human rights and civil rights for all—our universal and constitutional rights—will never be fully realized.

It is our duty to dismantle oppression, as well as, challenge and put an end to racist laws, policies, and practices that dehumanize people of color while sustaining white supremacy. Our mission is to harness the national unrest and dissatisfaction with racial injustice into a national mobilization that strengthens local and nationwide efforts for racial equity and justice.

For generations, we have marched, sat-in, walked-out, blocked bridges, protested, and educated our communities about issues of racial justice in a struggle to transform the policies that produce these injustices.

The growing movement against racist policing tactics and police killings has transformed the U.S. political terrain and brought much-needed attention to police brutality that is endemic in the U.S. At the heart of this movement is a rallying cry for justice for the victims of this violent system that disproportionately targets Black, Brown and Indigenous peoples.

Join us in the Langston Room for a March Recap and next-steps discussion.  How can we continue to mobilize until our goal is met?

Free and open to all.

A.C.T.O.R. is held on the first Sunday of every month at Busboys and Poets 14th & V from 5:00 PM-7:00 pm.
