Let’s Keep Talking!

ACTOR (A Continuing Talk on Race)  Presents a conversation on

Cuba's Revolution in the 21st Century: Race, Nationalism and Culture

Javier Hernandez, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba

Facilitated by Pamela Pinnock

Cuba has been the darling of revolutionaries worldwide for over 60 years. It stands as one of the only nations in the modern era that has stood against the imperialist designs of the United States government. The 21st century has seen the small island nation face challenges and changes that threaten the very revolution that is its hallmark. Many of good conscience are working hard to remove Cuba from the US State Terrorist List ( Cuba was readded to the list by Donald Trump in 2021) and also working to end the embargo and economic war that has been waged against Cuba by the U.S. since the 1950s. Join us for an engaging discussion with a group from the Busboys "Travel Tribe" recently back from a visit to Cuba sharing insights and images of the island as it faces its future. We will explore race and colorism, economics, literacy and culture on the island, and much more.

A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) is a public discussion series. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race, class and culture. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action!

On the last Sunday of each month there is a new topic for discussion
