Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 5th & K welcomes Tara Camplbell to present their new book "TreeVolution."
In her vividly imagined novel, Campbell, an assistant editor at Barrelhouse and author of the monthly “Text in the City†column for The Washington Independent Review of Books, has come up with a sui generis narrative that is part mystery, part techno-adventure, and part environmental cri de coeur. Tired of waiting for environmentalists to save them, the trees of Campbell’s speculative fiction start to look out for themselves, slapping people who try to climb, carve, or chain a bike to them. At first treated as some kind of urban legend, this odd arboreal behavior seems to be a genetic mutation—but a natural one, or the result of deliberate modification? A young park ranger and a Native American trying to protect old growth forest team up to discover what’s going on.
