You are invited to attend the Washington, DC, film premiere of the new documentary film, The Elephants and the Grass. Following the screening, a panel featuring Peter Biar Ajak, Brian Adeba, and other esteemed colleagues will discuss the film's relevance to current events in South Sudan.
Featured Speakers:
Why: Roughly 11 years into the country’s independence, the future of South Sudan still hangs in the balance. During the December US-Africa Leaders Summit, discussions over trade policies, elections, and peace deals will surely be discussed. This event is a night to remember that the future of South Sudan will be determined by those most affected by the war.
Instead of focusing primarily on the horrors of conflict, The Elephants and the Grass is a documentary anchored by a mother-and-daughter story about survival, reconciliation, and hope. While this personal story plays out in a refugee camp in Uganda, the filmmakers also provide exclusive access to the formation of South Sudan's Unity Government, being the only US film crew in attendance.
After the film, a panel discussion will be moderated by experts in peace-building, reconciliation, and recovery from the fallout of war. The panel will include featured guests from South Sudan, policy advisors, and the film's producer Andrew Bilindabagabo.
Light refreshments will be provided.
