New York Times bestselling author and NAACP Image Award winner, Omar Tyree, hosts the 3rd "True Soul & Hip Hop" night of live poetry, hip hop and soul music at the Columbia, Maryland, Busboys & Poets Mango Tree location from 6-9 PM on Juneteenth Sunday, June 19th, 2022, respectfully called a Freedom Jam.
Come out and celebrate the power of the spoken, rapped, and sang words of expression that eventually led to African-American freedom, going all the way back to the times of "Negro Spirituals" on the slave plantations, the speeches of Frederick Douglass, the poetry of Langston Hughes and the empowering songs of Paul Robeson.
The event will feature live poetry, hip hop and soul performances from fresh talent out of the Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore and Charlotte areas. This live event will benefit Tyree's Urban Literacy Project and his Howard University Alum and Hot Lava event coordinator, Walter "Rap" Pearson's College Bound Parenting.
