Description:

Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 14th & V welcomes Wenonah Hauter to present the new book "Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment."

Hauter’s Foodopoly examined what corporate control over the food industry means for consumers, farmers, and the environment. Her second book takes a similarly close and skeptical look at the energy industry. Focusing on the practice of hydraulic fracturing—fracking—to release oil and gas, Hauter, the executive director of Food and Water Watch, former director of Public Citizen’s Energy and Environment Program, and one-time senior organizer with the Union of Concerned Scientists, traces the history and technology of fracking, and compares the industry’s estimate of its health and economic consequences with what communities are actually experiencing.
