Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 5th & K welcomes Ben Lindbergh to discuss his new book "The Only Rule Is It Has To Work: Our Wild Experiment Building a New Kind of Baseball Team."
For Lindbergh and his co-author Sam Miller, baseball is all about the numbers. So when the Sonoma Stompers, an independent minor league team, invited the two to run its operations for a season, it became an experiment in applied sabermetrics. And now a very lively book, as Lindbergh, staff writer for FiveThirtyEight, and Miller, Baseball Prospectus editor in chief and co-editor of its annual guidebook, recount their experiences, not with statistics, but with the unpredictable dynamics of players, fans, and weather—the stuff of which statistics is made.
Lindbergh will be in conversation with Barry Svrluga, national baseball reporter for The Washington Post and author of The Grind.
