Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets Takoma welcomes Joel Swerdlow to present the new book So As I Was Saying...: My Somewhat Eventful Life.
As president of NPR, regional director of the Peace Corps, George McGovern’s campaign director, and Robert Kennedy’s press secretary, Frank Mankiewicz (1924-2014) had plenty of stories to tell about life in the public eye. His experience ranged from fighting in World War II to helping create Morning Edition, from growing up as the son of an academy-award winning director to serving in the Peace Corps in Peru. Swerdlow, a former senior writer and assistant editor at the National Geographic Magazine and a friend of Mankiewicz’s who co-wrote Remote Control with him, helped shape and complete Mankiewicz’s witty and engaging collection of thoughts and anecdotes.
Swerdlow will be in conversation with nationally renowned and award-winning broadcast journalist Susan Stamberg, special correspondent for NPR.
