Description:

Busboys and Poets Books welcomes author Joye Vailes Shepperd to discuss the new book, "A Good Ending for Bad Memories" (Bold Story Press, 2021)

Good Ending for Bad Memories is a tale about a woman and the splintered iterations of her identity that resulted from a seminal trauma. Equal parts sprawling travelogue and multi-generational family saga, A Good Ending is imbued with both magical realism and Southern Gothic narrative. Ultimately the story details the quest for wholeness, the reconstruction of memory, and reclaiming one's own narrative.

About the Author

Joye.JPG

Vailes Shepperd was born with a love of words. Words first, then stories and inevitably books. Good thing the house had her grandmother's library. She is happiest in her reading chair, enjoying a story that slowly unfolds itself as the pages turn. By her chair on the side, await two new books, hopefully completely different masterpieces. Her very best day is spent writing rewarded by reading. Vailes Shepperd is one of the Founding Members of the Washington Independent Review of Books and a former Senior Features Editor.

A Good Ending for Bad Memories is not her first book, only the first to be published.

Vailes Shepperd grew up in Washington, DC, and lives there now with her husband and sons.
