Ayers has been an activist since the 1960s; a former professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago, School of Education, his current focus is elementary education, and his many books include Teaching Toward Freedom, City Kids, City Schools,and To Teach: The Journey, in Comics. His newest book is a call to action that asks policy makers, teachers, and parents to envision what they want our schools to be and do; Ayers adds to these perspectives with his own experience, a critique of current education practices, and a dream of joyful schooling guided by love.
