Clark, a former Morgan Stanley investment banker who is chairman of BDA China, a consultancy he founded in Beijing in 1994, met Jack Ma in 1999, and in his first book tells the story of how Ma, who started out as an English teacher, founded Alibaba, an e-commerce company. As a consultant with many years of professional experience in China, Clark was present at the creation of this powerhouse (its consumer portal is one of the twenty most-visited websites globally), and his insider’s account draws on interviews with Ma and other key figures and on Clark’s own deep understanding of international business ad China’s economics.
