Radio Jerusalem
Musical Past, Present, and Future
Palestinian multi-instrumentalists Ronnie Malley and Zafer Tawil present an evening of live performance with classical and folk musical selections from the playlist of the historic Palestinian radio station originally established in 1936. Radio Jerusalem, which had its own Palestinian orchestra and broadcast in Arabic, English, and Hebrew as far east to Iraq and as far west as Egypt, was a vibrant beacon representing the cosmopolitan culture of Palestinian life. Join Ronnie and Zafer as they weave story and song playing music heard on the radio station during its time in Jerusalem until the 1948 Nakba, its subsequent move to Ramallah, and a reimagining of the station playlist today in a free Palestine, if there was no military occupation.
