Join Busboys and Poets and Bread and Roses 2016 LaborFest Confab : Got ideas for the 2016 DC LaborFest? Drop by the LaborFest Planning Confab at the Takoma Park Busboys and Poets, on Tuesday, January 12 from 6-8p. "Whether you’re a labor artist who wants to participate, have ideas about events or just want to find out more about how to get involved in this growing cultural event, all are welcome!" says LaborFest coordinator Chris Garlock. The LaborFest runs May 1-31; The get-together will consist of a review of previous LaborFest activities, discussion of possible events for 2016, and screenings of trailers for possible Labor FilmFest films. Bread & Roses is a monthly labor series that features a variety of events focused on workers and organized labor. Each month brings a new topic through interactive discussions, film screenings, and performances. The hope for these events is that attendees walk away with a greater understanding of organized labor, its role in shaping history and current relevance. The name "Bread & Roses" was inspired by a poem/song written by James Oppenheim that appeals for both fair wages and dignified conditions. Bread & Roses is held on the second Tuesday of every month at Busboys and Poets, Takoma. This month we'll have a Planning Confab for the 2016 DC Laborfest. Free and open to all!
