Description:

Join us for the virtual celebration and live excerpt reading of PREGNANT GIRL: A STORY OF TEEN MOTHERHOOD, COLLEGE, AND CREATING A BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG FAMILIES by Nicole Lynn Lewis, founder and CEO of Generation Hope (released May 4th, 2021). Generation Hope is a local organization in the District that supports student parents and ensures they have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility. We’ll follow up with a discussion including Generation Hope alum Nija Simmons and Trinity Washington University President Pat McGuire. This event is free and open to all and will be accessible through our Facebook and Youtube pages (@busboysandpoets). Please RSVP if you are interested in purchasing a book bundle (shipping included). The program will start out with an introduction from our Director of Operations before we get right to it with a small excerpt reading from the author herself, Nicole Lynn Lewis. We’ll follow up with a discussion between Nicole and our panelists, Nija Simmons and Pat McGuire, and explore their experiences in academia to examine the intersections of race, gender, and poverty foundational to the obstacles student parents face in higher education. There will be time for Q&A with the audience before we end our program.
